In a recent interview, we had the opportunity to speak with Ricardo Martins, a renowned Brazilian political commentator. I first met Ricardo at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in 2022, where he was part of President Jair Bolsonaro’s entourage. There was a memorable moment when President Bolsonaro was leaving the stage and interacting with the media. I was present and captured a video of the event, which I will share shortly.
Before diving into that, let’s reflect on President Trump’s speech at CPAC in 2022. Over the years, President Trump has delivered many impactful speeches, but his address at CPAC was particularly memorable. The essence of his message, along with leaders like President Bolsonaro and Viktor Orbán, was about standing up for the freedom of the world.
If given the chance to ask a single question to leaders like President Bolsonaro or President Trump, what would it be? Would it focus on the economy, the southern border, or issues of law and order? During the interview, I asked President Bolsonaro, through a Portuguese translator, what his message to the free world was. His response was clear and powerful: “Fight for your freedom and be vigilant in everything you do for freedom.”
This sentiment resonates deeply, especially considering the current political climate. As we face critical times, the call to “fight for your freedom” remains as relevant as ever. This message, echoed by many at CPAC, underscores the importance of vigilance and active participation in safeguarding our freedoms.
